How long is long enough to pay for a crime?

Comment: I’m in need for help! It’s not fair for me to banded for life from foodstamps because i receive a drug charge under the act of addiction. I’ve serve my country and I’ve serve my time for my crime. I shouldn’t be punish for ever in the state of South Carolina for poss. of cocaine. I only had one little piece and got 18 mos. in prison. It’s been 7 or 8 yrs. and I’m still not eligible for benefits. I’m ASKing for help and fairness. Only a drug charge band you for life from benefits. Other charges like murder, robbery, and etc. your still eligible for food stamps.
Maybe this would be a good question for Barrack Obama. Ask Bill Clinton why did he sign off on something to hurt a man for ever,

Response: This is really outside the scope of the ComingTogether Plan proposal in that it is more about the appropriate punishment for a crime. You make a strong case that the punishment is too great for your crime. The U.S. Constitution directs us to beware of stepping from justice into cruelty. Our plan, which extends certain basic benefits to all citizens, would not reduce such benefits even to criminals. The housing benefits would simply be paid to the jail or prison system which houses incarcerated citizens: it qualifies as a residential facility. If you feel the laws about foodstamps are unfair, you are right to complain to the politicians who made these laws. Talk to your representatives. Check with the agency through which pardons are handled, probably in the governor’s office.

Thank you for your service to our great country. God bless you.
