Weeding out welfare

Comment:Am I the only one who thinks that there are too many people on Welfare?
Why not rule that if anyone in a Welfare household, gets pregnant or gets someone pregnant, then the Welfare household should lose Welfare.
Why not rule that if anyone in a Welfare household is arrested or charged with a crime, then the household should lose Welfare.

Sincerely, L.T. Richardson

Response: Perhaps there is a confusion about cause-and-effect relationships, when we discuss reasons for poverty and the ‘need’ to join the welfare rolls. Crime, which is one reason that families break up, does often contribute to poverty. Children, although for a time they may be expensive dependents, also contribute to family, household chores, and community — and since Americans believe that the right to Life is absolute, along with Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness, adding penalties for pregnancy is not the answer. The ComingTogether Plan affirms that every legal citizen (man, woman, child) within U.S. borders shall have a share in welfare, as a safety net, drawn from a flat taxation system which will bring the American dream back into being (if you work hard, you will find many opportunities to improve your life). Yes, there are too many on welfare now, but it is the loss of this American dream that has caused this to happen.
