Just plug the Welfare drain completely

Comment: The whole situation on trying to reform welfare is unnecessary and a waste of time if you ask me.
The country is not going to fix itself if  people who work hard for a living are forced to give some of their paycheck to the sluggards of our country who get paid to do NOTHING.  I agree that it was a system that was created to help people through hard areas of their lives (and I’m sorry for the people out there who actually do need welfare support to get back on their feet), but throughout time people have figured out how to take advantage of the system and how to keep receiving “FREE” money without having to do anything…
Two benefits from ceasing the supply of money to the welfare program: 1) We can start putting that massive amounts of money that we dump and waste into the welfare program and start putting it towards the giant debt that our country has plunged into which would actually serve a purpose other than watching people squander the hard earned American dollar.  2) By ceasing the pay to the sluggards of this country, they will finally get the motivation they need to get off of their lazy butts and to start …doing whatever they can to help this LAND OF THE FREE prosper and to get back to the morals and views that this country was created on.
Welfare has turned the views of this country from “What we can do for this country” into “What this country can do for us.”  If this way continues our greed will tear us apart until we are no longer a nation united but a nation divided.

Sincerely,
A Hard-Working American who strives for the rest of the country to be the same

Response: Your comments spring from a very American passion for independence and self-sufficiency. May we point out (as explained in the ComingTogether Plan ) that, historically, it has also been an American trait to want to help others? You agree that not all those receiving benefits are lazy — if we drop public assistance entirely, what will happen to those who are poor because of calamity? The ComingTogether Plan keeps help in place for victims of tornadoes,  sudden downturns in health, loss of family, and so on. With our Plan, the level of help is moderate, and the individual has a choice in how to apply the help.
You mentioned “taking advantage of the system.” This happens now because the current system offers little or no incentive to get out of “the system”; it is a trap, not a lift. The ComingTogether Plan, by contrast, favors people with a spirit like yours, people who want to contribute or produce something for this country. It ushers in fair taxes and real incentives to pursue life, liberty, and happiness.
