But the Bible says: "No Work, No Eat."

Comment: [This proposal] might concern those who argue the biblical mandate given by Paul that those not willing to work should not eat. A guaranteed income, even at minimal levels, might be a disincentive to a productive lifestyle. I would have to do more thinking about how a biblical view of human nature would square with a guaranteed income.

Response: We maintain that this ComingTogether Plan increases the incentive to be productive, rather than decreases it. There is already a significant amount of benefits available to many with no income, but these benefits are taken away so rapidly when income is obtained that there is little incentive to be productive. This proposal changes that to give the same incentive to increase earnings to every person, no matter what the income level.

It may also be of interest to those who respect the Scripture written by Moses (Christians, Jews, and Muslims) that this program is consistent with Leviticus 25:35 ff: “If one of your countrymen becomes poor and unable to support himself among you, help him as you would an alien or a temporary resident, so he can continue to live among you. Do not take interest of any kind from him, but fear God, so that your countryman may continue to live among you.” (NIV translation)
